The Sherman Oaks Galleria is located in Los Angeles, California, in the neighborhood with the same name, in San Fernando Valley. It covers 300,000 square feet of retail space, but there are also 700,000 square feet of office space. The mall is currently owned by Douglas Emmett & Co. and was opened in 1970 as a very bright and popular open-air shopping center. Due to the earthquake in 1990, the mall suffered economical problems and finally closed in 1999, only to reopen in 2002 as a brand-new, still open-air, mall.
Shops in this mall are not the traditional ones you may find in an ordinary mall. There are 10 restaurants in this mall, out of which 6 are quick-service eateries. Dining options include the Cheesecake Factory, Starbucks Coffee and Pretzelmaker.
Parking is ample at this mall and fees range from $1.5 for 15 minutes to $15 (maximum fee). Valet parking is available for an additional fee and those who prefer covered parking can use the underground garage. Family-friendly amenities are scarce and many may find this mall too expensive.
There is a 16-screen Pacific cinema theatre, for those who want to take a break from shopping. Entertainment options are varied, during the day, but also during the night. The surrounding area seems promising, too, with lots of greenery and recreation areas. Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area, Woodley Ave Park, Encino and Balboa Golf Course, Anthony C. Bellenson Park, and Van NY Sherman Oaks Park are located in the proximity of this mall.
